She hurriedly compiled the papers, glancing at the clock every five minutes. The phone continuously ringing but not minding it at all and too focused on the papers. Clicking the stapler to the right pages of the files and rechecking it twice as she places it on their respective folders with different labels. Finally, seeing that there are no more papers left on the table she carried twenty folders on both arms. The shelf was near the door, she approached it with haste. Then without warning the door suddenly opened and a man on semi formal attire entered, apologizing on her and bent down to grab the folders and papers that were again disorganized.
“Oh no!” She said as they both fixed the files clattered on the floor.
“Jen, go ahead I’ll fix this mess.” The guy insisted looking at her while grabbing the files at random, “At least I’ll be able to recheck the files thrice at its rightful place.”
“Are you sure, Greg?” She said standing up grabbing her bag on a the table.
“No problem, just go now before you get late again.” He got up to his feet with the papers and folders on both arms and approaching the table where Jen’s bag rested earlier.
Jen got out the door but after five seconds she appeared at the door again and asked, “Are we going out later?”
“Not sure if he’s available too but I’ll give him a call, don’t worry.” He said and started to sort the papers
“Please do Greg, thanks, I am off.” And she was gone, here high heels echoed along the corridor and slowly faded. It didn’t take long to sort the files, and he placed it on the shelf near the door after. He sat on his desk, the smell of its newly bought features still present and it yet had no marks or scratch on it, except for a wet marked left by his cup of coffee. He took a sip from it, someone had added to much cream. Probably Jen, for he knew she preferred her coffee like this. Then the door of his office opened and appeared a middle aged woman holding a folder.
"Your appointed secretary is really on such a rush since you got her here that was like –- "
“For three straight weeks” He finished her sentenced
“Oh that girl sure has great spirit and dedication.” She said placing the folder on his desk and sat on a chair just in front of the desk.
“Is she yours?” He almost spilled his coffee while sipping from it and gave a laugh on her question, “Come on, boy, I’ve knowing you with my sister ever since she gave birth at you.”
“Come on, she deserves better.” He answered back grabbing the folder and scanning it
“Speaking of your friends, I haven’t heard from them. I remembered there last visit here and you were guys like a bunch of kids gone wild in bar or a children’s party.”
He paused for a while giving the file one last look, when he was done he placed down the open folder on his desk and answered.
“Well, Jen, to start of, is still finishing her course. She’s supposed to be a graduating student, now, but she stopped for this year and the school granted her a year of Leave of Absence. You know why I hired her as secretary, though inexperienced, I just hope I give her enough to pay even for her own dues. Scott is studying a vocational course in some school and simultaneously works as a call center agent and every six months he goes back to his mom, abroad, to pay for her meds and to take care of her. Lex is always on a business trip, but still pissed off of the company he’s in.” He then grabbed a pen from the left chest pocket of his polo shirt and signed the paper and pushed to folder afterwards towards the lady.
“And what about the other kid?”
“Oh” He gave a forced smile “Dray, he’s now a graduating student, but is recently in dilemma.”
“Do you mind speaking of this dilemma?”
“Well it’s his family, they sort of left him.”
“But isn’t he the kid who cam here enthusiastic?” She asked grabbing the folder then standing up.
Greg got up to his feet also, “Well yeah but I guess you’ll never know when these things grab hold of your life jut like that.”
“And that goes the same with you, boy, and with everyone else including me. So take care of your job that your mother is so proud of.” She extended her hand and offered a hand shake
“I will!” He said happily and accepted her hand shake
“Well the memo here says you’re next assignment will be given by him herself. Have a good day Mr. Gregory Mendez.”
“Thanks.” And she left the room. He grabbed his cellular phone from one of his pant’s pocket and dialed for Dray.
